NTU explores renewable energy sources at Brackenhurst
alternative energy grants

Our energy and environmental experts are exploring the possibility of installing wind turbines at the University’s Brackenhurst campus.

Renowned as one of the UK’s most environmentally friendly universities, a feasibility study is currently examining a range of options, which it is hoped might also offer opportunities for a community scheme similar to the one at nearby Hockerton.

The University estimates that installing the wind turbines could save approximately 400 tonnes of CO2 for the environment every year and has developed a series of information pages for anyone wishing to learn more about the initiative. The web pages can be accessed via the Ecoweb website.

An additional range of alternative energy sources are also being investigated across all three of Nottingham Trent University’s campuses, including solar panels, ground source heat pumps and the Nottingham District Heating Scheme.

Grant Anderson, Environmental Manager at the university, said: "It’s important at this stage that we assess what might be possible. We are one of the leading green universities in the UK and are absolutely committed to reducing our environmental impact."
