Article by Seth Setterberg

Solyndra, one of the largest solar panel manufacturers, is going to have many Americans scratching their heads. Solyndra, which was established in 2008, is now facing chapter 11 bankruptcy after receiving a $ 535 million loan guarantee in 2009 from the Department of Energy. The president, in attempt to “go green”, is stressing the importance of getting away from the traditional fossil fuels and is pushing Americans to invest in alternative energy sources such as solar power, fuel cells, biofuels, hydroelectric, and wind power. The government, through the award of contracts, loan guarantees, grants, tax credits, and rebates has created a false market for companies seeking entry and sustainability in the alternative energy market.

With Solyndra going bankrupt, two concerns arise. First, why is the President signing off on a $ 535 million dollar loan for a company that was $ 557 million in debt from 2006 to 2009? The magnitude of losses suffered by Solyndra should have caught someone in the Treasury Department’s attention. With a loan guarantee in the sum of $ 535 million, this is a prime example of the Government creating a false market. The actual market for solar power is small right now, partly due to the recession; and even though the cost for solar power may be decreasing the market has yet to grow. Revenue for Solyndra increased from $ 6 million in fiscal year 2007 to $ 100 million in fiscal year 2008. That is a revenue increase of 1600%! A drastic increase like this could mean two things; the market for solar energy is expanding very rapidly, or there is some foul play with the books displaying such a huge increase in revenue. Either way, it creates a higher probability of receiving a loan guarantee. Solyndra did make a hefty contribution to the Obama Presidential Campaign in 2008 in a sum of $ 50 thousand, but that is just politics. The perception in the eyes of the taxpayer is a mismanagement of tax dollars.

Another key concern is the public’s willingness to buy into alternative energy. We all can agree that alternative energy is renowned and will eventually become more dependent upon, but today’s market is not mature enough for a consumer to fully buy into. The economy, being in a recession, has significant impact on the alternative energy market. Consumers buy the necessary commodities when times are tight; luxury items stay on the shelf.

If simple economic factors are observed for alternative energy, the market begins to make sense. The model used to determine a market price is a supply and demand curve. When demand is high or the supply is low the model suggests that the price will be high. Alternative energy is expensive, but in reality the demand is low and the supply is high, resulting in the alternative energy being out of economic equilibrium. The alternative energy market is saturated with companies. The Federal Government is creating a false market by providing tax breaks, loans, and grants to work in the alternative energy market. Even with the positive impact for the environment and the potential future cost savings, the public is not ready to pay more for an equivalent product or service. With the sluggish current economic trend, the market for these more costly alternative forms of energy is not feasible.

The President has set some lofty goals for alternative energy consumption, but the consensus of the public is that alternative energy is too expensive. It is not only expensive for individuals, but it is also expensive for the Government. According to the Department of Energy’s website the federal government has awarded $ 38 billion in loan guarantees. This would be good news for small business start-ups seeking funds but bad news for established businesses trying to earn profits in the energy sector. With the government fiscal year coming to a close on the 30th of September, it will be interesting to see what kind of budget congress agrees on for the next year, and if entrepreneurs will continue to seek the alternative energy market share.

Article by Mark S Sorne

Too much human actions like forest denudation and also traditional oil combustion of cars and industries throughout the stretch of time have dramatically elevated greenhouse gases throughout the atmosphere resulting to the increase of Earth’s temperature. Greenhouse Effect occurs when we have an upsurge of dangerous materials throughout the atmosphere that permits assimilation of heat coming from the direct sun light and warms the Earth. Global warming is a scientific fact about modifications in the average temperatures that detrimentally impact each life organism globally. Modifications in climate patterns because of the concentration of carbon dioxide are generally impacting the organic activities of the planet. The rising of sea levels, melting of ice both in southern and northern hemisphere, plus the recurrent incidence of weather extreme conditions are the indication climate change.

This phenomenon had elevated societal concern globally, instigating human mediation in order to ease off harshness of climate change along with its repercussions. There are certain options taken up to greatly reduce harmful gas emission, to increase the utilization of naturally degradable products, to recycle instead of generating waste materials within the landfills, to plant even more trees, and all sorts of the basic guidelines like enjoying outdoors rather than vacationing in the hotel and resort. Most importantly, the introduction of renewable power work opportunities is becoming popular.

Electric power consumes the majority of the standard fuels which are burned to produce it. How do we modify the world’s existing source of energy that would slash the damaging effect on the environment? Renewable power solutions have become accentuate such as the photovoltaic, geothermal and wind and hydro power, which are continuously and naturally refreshed by Mother Nature. Generation of electric power from all of these all-natural sources does not yield hazardous wastes not like the use of fossil fuels. As an example, the UK government had issued certificates to construct nine new major wind energy farms off the seaside of the country, which could generate as much as 25 percent of the electrical power usage.

The extensive reinforcement by the administration for the alternative energy sources evidently created placements associated with engineering, geoscience and geophysics, chemistry, environmental science to mention a few. The demand for these types of careers established openings towards the already strong workforce of 135,000 in the UK and constantly rising. Not simply around the principal tasks of alternative energy that it provides opportunities but additionally concerning administrative jobs including commerce, human resource and finance.

The need for new employees in the area of renewable power also enhanced the call for even more relevant college degree curriculum offered by various institutions in the Uk such as It, electronics, organic and physical sciences, mathematics, electronic, electrical and mechanical engineering to sustain the requirement for work force in the renewable power arena.

The aftermaths of climate change are terrifying nonetheless on the lighter part, they feature constructive influences to the human beings to figure out ways and opportinity for an improved, cleaner and renewable sources of energy. Is it better late than never? Professionals state that global warming is already observable. Rapid changes are needed to save the deterioration of the environment. Thanks to the renewable energy alternatives that are presently on the go.

Article by Dave Garcia

There is no denying the fact that we need a source of energy to power most of our everyday tasks and needs. The modern man is constantly looking for ways to better himself through sophisticated technology. These things need a power in order to work which is why the need for a greater source of energy is evident. Presently, we are mainly relying on fossil fuels such as coal, oil or natural gas to do this.

Bu there are huge disadvantages for utilizing fossil fuels for energy. For one, they emit harmful by-products that is one of the causes of global warming. To add to that, fossil fuels are getting increasingly expensive as their resources are slowly depleting. What is fortunate is that experts are actively finding alternative sources of energy to address these concerns.

What is Alternative Energy?

An alternative energy is used to replace another source of energy due to its harmful impact on the environment. People use solar PV panels for homes and offices that use solar energy, wind turbines are used to harness wind energy, heat coming from within the earth is used for geothermal energy and hydroelectric energy is utilized through moving water. The use of these alternative energy sources could promote environmental awareness and could even provide a solution to our global financial crisis.

Kinds of Alternative Energy

Solar Energy. While the sun has provided the earth with the means to sustain life, its full potential has not been really used. Individual homes could take advantage of the sun’s rays by converting it into electricity through the use of solar PV panels. Solar power is one of the most popular forms of alternative energy as it can be easily installed in residences and the work place.

Wind Energy. Another increasingly recognized alternative energy source is wind power. People are provided with electric power through turbines and windmills.

Geothermal Energy. Heat from within the bowels of the earth is so intense that it could create molten magma. Electricity is generated through energy conversion technology from the heat coming out of the earth.

Hydroelectric Energy. Hydroelectric power is maximized through waterfall dams. Electricity is produced by the earth’s hydrologic cycle which is then transported towards an electric facility that distributes the electrical power to the people.

The government and its people are already aware of the harmful effects of burning fossil fuel emissions such that incentives are given to those who actively use alternative energy such as installing solar panel systems in their own homes. The initial expense it would take for one to install a solar panel would eventually be returned and could even double if utilized properly. Further reading on solar PV panel as an alternative energy source could be had on the solar panel information site. Making the first step towards helping our environment could spell a huge difference for the future generation.

So these are one of the many facts about “Alternative Sources of Energy” and how Solar Panel can benefit one’s home and environment.

The cost to set up a renewable energy source from the sun or wind can be very expensive if you get the installation from a company. You may have to spend more than $ 3,000 just to draw enough energy from a solar or wind power system. If you are interested in using alternative energy generated from wind power, then making a DIY home residential wind turbine is something worth consideration.

Building the wind turbine by your own may sound complicated, but it is not. In fact, once you understand the basic structure of a home residential wind turbine. You can build the system successfully with minimum cost.

When you start to search for information on internet for a homemade wind turbine, it returns thousands of search results with a lot of them in an amazing variety of designs and complexities. But, if you narrow down all the requirements to build a home residential wind turbine, they consist of five common things:

A generator
Blades
A tower to get it up into the wind
A mounting to keep it turning
An electronic control system
If you divide the DIY home residential win turbine project into these 5 little systems and work on them one at a time, you will find that building a wind turbine is not that complicated as you think initially.

If it is your first effort to build a home residential wind turbine, then building a generator from scratch can be a bit too complicated. A better option would be using surplus permanent magnet DC motors as generator in your project. Try searching for a suitable DC motor at your local store or you should be able to find one at online store like eBay. I would recommend the 99 volt DC motor made by Ametek, among the best motor I have found and it works great as a generator. However, other brands can also meet the purpose as long as you look for a motor that is rated as high DC voltage, low RPMs and high current. The key reason of finding this type of DC motor is that you want to set a generator to generate 12 volts at a fairly low rpm with a useful level of current. For example, a motor that is rated with 325 rpm at 30 volts when using as a generator, could expect to generate 12 volts at fairly low RPMs. Whereas, if you use a motor rated at 7200 rpm at 24 volts, it won’t be able to produce the required 12v output until it is spinning a few thousands of RPMs. Therefore, you should be careful when shopping for a right DC motor to be used as a generator in your wind turbine project.

Next, for the blades, you have option to make it from wood or PVC pipes. It is not difficult to make the blades, many DIY Wind Turbine guides do involve step-by-step guide on how to build them easily. Once you have gotten started on motor and blades, then getting the rest of little systems up to running are not difficult. Find a DIY wind turbine guide to help you in building the system can save your time by avoiding the common mistakes and ensure the project can be completed within the budget.

Summary

DIY a home residential wind turbine is not as complicated as it sounds. You can build it successfully to generate electric from wind to power your home.

Ahead of purchasing a solar energy kit, you will want to be certain that the kit you acquire has enough electrical power for your residence. You want to do this by going through every thing you energy in your property, or at least the ones you can’t do without, and determining just how many hours you use each a single. Then you will take the total hours and multiply that quantity by the number of hrs of power consumption. The number that you get here will help you know what energy kit you will need to obtain. You may possibly want one bigger than you require, so that you will be prepared for when your energy requirements boost. One of the Sun energy Kits will manual you by way of creating a solar energy method for your house or even a remote area. It will contain a distinct list of exactly what you require to purchase in order to build your solar radiation system for your house. The very best kit will support you to convert the solar radiation that the sun offers into usable power for all of these appliances that you just can not do with no.The much better solar energy kit that you acquire, the far better your solar electrical power technique will be. You want to be confident that none of the solar power you gather is lost, or wasted. You want to be certain that your panels and systems are set up in this kind of a way as to maximize that solar electrical power. I figured I would look at the house solar energy kits out there, choose out the finest one and have my buddies do it with me then they could barrow the kit and I could assist them set up.I know we all like to jump ahead, but the home solar panel kits come with quite particular directions for a purpose. But I guarantee you comply with the instructions and you will be far more than happy with your new house solar electrical power method.Solar power is one of the most underneath utilized forms of energy for residential properties. Estimates suggest that only .1 % of all energy consumed comes from renewable sources like solar energy. Briefly, you will need a single or far more solar panels. You will need a charge controller, a battery bank and an inverter. The quantity of solar panels will establish the quantity of power you can generate and the size of the system. For instance, if you have a lot of panels, you will require more batteries to shop the energy. The charge controller ensures that the batteries do not get above charged. The battery bank will hold direct current that you can use. The inverter can convert the direct present into alternating present that can be used in your home.A slight variation on this is when the method is linked in with the electrical power that comes from the grid – recognized as a grid tied program. This is a easier layout with small to no upkeep needed. It does not need to have a battery to store energy as it is stored by the utility company that runs your grid. The alternative to a specialist residential solar energy kit is a DIY option.
